Re: ORIGIN OF ROBB FAMILY NAME uilrabb (View posts) Posted: 24 Sep 2007 2:21PM Classification: Query Surnames: Robb, Rabb, Raab, Rabbi The Name Robb In Ireland this name is virtually exclusive to Ulster and is most common in County Antrim. The name is Scottish and was originally MacRobb, from Rob, a Scottish pet form of Robert. The MacRobbs of Duror in Argyll were a sept of the Stewarts of Appin and descended from an illegitimate son of Robert, son of Dugald, first Chief of Clan from Robert, one of the Bachanans of Leny. There was also a MacRobb sept of Clan MacFarlane. Stewart of Appin. The MacRobbs of Callander and Kilmadock in Perthshire descendent. Jacpbite Rebel Soldiers The home parishes of three Scottish Jacobite soldiers captured during the 1715 Uprising can now be revealed. Previously this information has been hard to come by. The three were transported to South Carolina from Liverpool on board the Susannah on 7th May 1716. James Robb and John Robb - Killimuir (Kirrimuir?), Angus & Thomas Robb, Craghton (Crichton?), Midlowden (Midlothian) Their fate is unknown... Choose one of the many explanations, all have some merriet. Most of the Scot's and Irish spell the name Robb but because of the penmanship fo our fathers the name in many cases was spelled Rabb on many legal documents ie my name Uil G. Rabb. However a number of persons fron Germany spelled the Name Rabb. Then when I was in Austria the name was spelled Raab. A number Rabb/Raab are of the jewish faith "Rabbi". The Scot's say ROBB, The Germans say RABB, The Austrians RAAB, and I think the Finish say RABB. SO WHAT DO YOU SAY. Good Hunting UIL |
